It was a tough decision.
Our book club members had five compelling novels to choose from. The lead runners The Brisbane Line and The Lost Diary of Venice only had one vote separating them.
But there can only be one winner…The Brisbane Line pipped it at the gate!
I’m actually delighted that this was our winner. I have a little soft spot for this book and it has everything to do with my grandfather.
William Keith Winders was my mother’s father. He was a Sergeant in the Queensland Police, stationed at the Woollangabba Police Station during the time this novel was set.
So, I have no doubt I’ll be able to feel my Poppy walking around the pages of this novel.
I’ve dug through my mother’s beautiful old leather hat box full of memories and found some cracking shots of Poppy from this period.
